Experimental Photography Asignment

Well let say before I lost my work I had this image saved on to one of the computers not remembering I saved it on there. But I did apparently save it on one of the computers I used so I`m using for what I would have used it for in the first place for my Experimental Photography. This image is to show silhouette photography which is shown in this image. If this was not my first time at it I imagine with some practice it could come out better. But this images is what I have and it came out okay in my opinion but there are little bits what could use improving. overall the image is what I have created using the technique known as silhouette.

Okay this image is picture I have used for Product Photography as you can tell this is a image of a wallet. But this is my wallet with a anime called bleach. The reason I used it cause it is a product you can buy as well as I am a anime fan so this was something I could use which didn't bother me in the least. although this was my second time doing Product Photography I have not had to much trouble with it but I was eager to finish this image so the image could of been taken better which is my fault again  with this in mind the image is done. Overall it still came out how I needed it too that makes it a big success.

Well this image shown above is a self portrait yes this is what I look like this image is one of the other techniques i used from the choices I had of techniques this was set a time to help me take the image I do seem to have a strange attachment to this coat and hat well either way the image shows that I have used the technique how I could it was not to hard I did ask for help setting the camera a few times though it was a little embarrassing  though because I thought I could do this with out it still but even still had a little trouble same with one of my other photos which is next. Overall the image was done seems similar to another image I have but the image was done to with only a single person so when some tells you that you need two people that is not true you need a camera a tripod and to set the camera to timer.

This is the Last technique I needed to do I choose light painting it was quite fun even though to draw the object you want is tougher than it looks draw it backwards  for most but there are things you don't have to try draw backwards as you can see this was my attempt at drawing a stick man it is not that good because his waist is also attached to his head, arms and legs but the image was the most fun to take it was enjoyable this was a image which did require help i could not do it with out the help I got from my mentor he did help a lot with it. But the choice of the work was my own I choose it because it was something new and seemed interesting to me though. Overall the image was a success the image came out how i needed i am happy with it but your opinion matters.

HDRI Images and stages

First Image

 

This image has had Colour Balance, Levels and unsharpened masks done. To it this has changed the image in ways, which will be shown in the image below this.

Then I took it into Photomatics and "tweaked" it a bit to make it into a image i liked so much. I applied a setting known as "Creative" then I changed a few extra settings around like the Gamma, White Point and Black Point.

Second Image

Has had same things done to it with Photoshop it has had Colour balance changed, Levels and unsharpened masks done to it the image is changed but only by using these functions.

Well then this image was taken through Photomatics which has changed it looks more like a drawing than a photo now but that dosen't make me an artist or anything I used a setting called "B&W Artistic" then i changed a few settings like the Gamma, White Point and Black Point.

Third Image

 

It has had the same again for it just changed the colour balance, levels and unsharpened masks done on the image Photoshop was used for this as well that Photoshop is able to change just the tiny details in a image but these changes are amazing.

 

This was the last image i had to do for the HDRI. Again this image went through Photomatics like the rest this had again another setting on called "Soft 2" there was other settings again like the Gamma, White Point and Black Point.

Well lets have look what is going on so far.

Well i have got some ideas for my experimental photography i have got an idea for my product photograph, self portrait and my digital manipulation but i cant think of a good idea for a silhouette i do have a idea but I'm not to sure if it is as good as i think the others i have got  a good idea for each so if you got an good ideas you can post a comment if not don't worry about it. but let's i should be uploading some pictures soon if not them they will appear some time soon. Yeah lost all my work so i`m screwed. But it happens.


Okay I have restarted my work i have two days left till it has to be in. That includes today this is not easy to do but it is worth the shot i have got 5 of 7 images again. This makes it easy but i still have to show the techniques what i used and show the differences in the images that is quick and simple but i can't use one of the programs needed because of the simple fact of certain computers not having them but this is a set back which i am not to fussed about either it is the last two images i need which i am fussed about.

Photography: is it Art?

Photography: is it art

The reasons for; well my own personal opinion is that it can be depending on the photographer. If they are doing their photography for their own personal reason and not for benefit then it is art. Because artists sometimes say they draw from the heart. If a photographer takes a image from the heart then they can be an artist. But if they sell it for profit then I don't consider them an artist.

If you are being asked to display it then I still class you as an artist. But this is my opinion on the matter at hand. I think that when most artists sell their work for profit they just never really cared for their art at all. They just wanted money if you need to sell some paintings to make a living then that is fine. As long as they’re not too wealthy and still selling their art work. That is what I mean to take a image what is from your heart is what defines you as artist or photographer.

Another reason for; photographers take photos to show everyone their amazing photos. This shows that photographers like most artists can be spectacular in their own way. Without spending so many minutes, hours, days or even months improving their images or drawings. So that it reaches their expectations of what they have envisioned to produce. It is true that not all photographers care what people think as long as they get paid. But there are some who enjoy doing what they do because they do.

The reasons against; photography is not art most artist spend much time getting their art to look how they want which can take a large amount of time it can vary. This shows that when a photographer has their image they change it little by little to get their image to their perspective. This shows that more time is spent drawing for artists than most photographers.

This is a simple reason why and can be argued but it is still a reason and a major one at that this gives the problem. Which is a matter of personal opinion you can agree or disagree? But I am in titled to an opinion this is my opinion don’t like it. We can have a discussion about my opinion then. Photography is what it is there is no reason to say it is art. Comparing it like this makes you see the faults in the two.

These photographers are comparing art to photography. But you see although art cannot catch realism. Photographs can’t capture imagination that comes from the mind this is inspiration to most. But an idea for artist most would base their ideas around their inspiration. Artists just create what they see fit till they get their drawing to what they want they can give up but usually go back after a while to see if any other inspiration will help them or motivate them enough to carry on.

Those who have come to a conclusion on my opinion have the choice to agree or disagree I will not say your wrong but this is my decision on this matter but this is a subject which can be talked about in certain situations but with this being a two topics in this project my opinion is a bit stretched but this makes me slightly more determined to get my work complete this may seem a bit strong but the matter of being a photograph is a means most don’t understand for they do not understand the position of those who are taking the photos them self being in the situation of saying you’re a photographer is different to just taking photos there are some photographers who are serious on the matter and those who are not some don’t even bother depending on how their personality is this can also define what type of photographer you are. You may think of this as harsh but this is my opinion again.

But it is truth which I speak when I took this course for photography I thought we are going to talk about the photos we took but it is not like that at all it is a lot more complicated than that it is about the types of photos yes how you can change your photos from when you take them or when you edit them this course is more than how most people would see it the fact of the matter is that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover that meaning that not everything is how it appears from the start to the end anything an change even the look of how you see photographers. This can change from people saying point and shoot to something a bit more complicated like change the aperture to F11 and shutter speed to 1/60 of a second  this can change depending on the situation of how people see it depending on the people who want that type of change.

The matter that I was on about is that photography is art to me as long as you don’t become a sell out to what you do I can class you as an artist but as I said this is my opinion there are people with different opinions to me this may make you an artist in their eyes but in mine it depends then.

Conflict

This is always being showed from one side and not both so you only see what they want you to see. They are the government but I’m not going to tell you it is a conspiracy because they have reason as well this is their decision to do so.

There have been photographers, which are experts in war photography, which I'm going to talk about this has made a  impact on the world with photographers like Roger Fenton, Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner and James Nachtwey to name a few but these are known by a lot of photographers who cover wars they are inspiration yet eye openers.

What I`m going to tell you is that being in conflict has consequences for both sides so you can`t judge both sides in war you can't say you feel the same pain from losing someone It may sound like I am saying I know your life but I don't so you may have lost someone I wouldn't know and I apologise if you have. It is not the greatest feeling I presume for I have not lost someone through war so I don`t know the feelings someone feels when they lose someone in a war.

Conflicts never end how they plan out unless you know how both sides are going to act but then you would have knowledge over the battlefield this gives a distinct advantage in this type of situation. Conflict can be anything not just war it can be a fight or even a argument  these  types of things are easy to understand and less people are hurt but in a war zone this is different both sides take casualties and suffer for the loss of someone to them even if they have nothing to do with the war. This means anyone can be hurt not just someone they know there are people on both sides who know their pain some who know it first hand and some who know it better than those who have lost one person. Not to make it sound that those are insignificant but that too inform that you’re not alone when it comes to this.

This type of question most people think they`re fine they`re safe that is wrong a large majority of war photographers die during these types of wars they just went to take pictures to show you what a war is like. But many photographers die during this over 150 die a year during a war this makes it hard for most photographers to make a decision if they should risk there life so you can know what is happening in a war you may not want to know. But most do want to know what is happened they have mixed emotions at that time unsure what to do at that moment unless they know they feel useless. For the photographers always trying to stay alert so that they don't get attacked in the war zone. So they`re always fearing for their life an adrenaline going through out there body and depression about having to look at a travesty.

If you draw an explosion you think wow that looks great you see a picture and your disgusted in horror this shows the colours of war .But yet so many volunteer to go I'm not going to say anything bad about it for they have their reasons for doing so and that gives them a motivation. But when people say photography; is it art it can differ on the content of what is art in the first place is it anything you can see or touch. Photography is its own type of art in a way but to be called an artist is to show something from the heart.

Resistance


Is to fight back against something even if the odds are against it this has always been how resistance is although if you type resistance in you seem to get the game resistance fall of man for Playstation 3. That is different to the resistance I’m talking about the resistance I’m talking about is fighting back in many situations a resistance are formed sometimes the resistance wins and sometimes it loses. The wins and losses can decide on which side can win or lose there is usually a battle of some sort goes on there can be more than one but sometimes there is only one to them it is war even in a argument one has a different opinion to the other side this is showing resistance in a argument but there are more dangerous ones then that.

The ones I am talking about is war based resistance though this type of resistance is where people have had to stand up and fight back because they have no choice they choose to fight for what they believe in not going to say I agree with all of the resistance points of why they choose to fight but I think if they believe in something and you fight for what you believe in then that is your decision and you have my respect although this doesn`t make all resistance good people there are resistance which you may class as bad people and ones who you class as good but in the end a resistance is to fight  against something or someone for example when you hear someone go on strike then you imagine they need or want something but this counts as a resistance to the manager or the owner it is up to them what they do though do they give in to their demands or do they fire them this is a decision this can be a hard decision or a easy one depending on their job and how hard they work.

Well those aren’t the only types of resistance there are resistances in anybody if you get told to do something you resist to do it that is a resistance not as strong as most other resistances but that is because there are larger groups for most resistances though other resistances can have very simple points just as much as not wanting to go to sleep or even wanting or needing more money to the person their conviction towards it can deem its worth to the person who is resisting this can show how much they resist to give in to them to do something just because they are told will not make them do it. This is known as Free will being able to fight for what you believe to what you fight for is up to you but fight for what you want don`t be controlled to do something unless that is what you wanted. Also resisting getting bullied is a good one you should try it but don`t resist for something what does not bother you at all and by that I mean if you going to fight back do it. If you are not bothered by it then your decision as what you should do.

What I choose was Product photography, Self portrait, Silhouette and Digital Manipulation (Photoshop)
although i have done one of these before it is for my assignment and doing three complete new ones will be part of my challenge. For this work although if i choose all four as different ones I may have not be able to handle it. As well as I have to do three HDRI shots with any choice of what images i take as long as it is a image i have taken i will be taking images of in game shots.

researching experimental photography; rob hudson

This is another of my researching photographers this time it is rob hudson his images are of are google i do not own these images. So to tell you i was going to do someone called "Yuko Michishita" but the images were not those of what i could enjoy as much but check out some of their stuff but as you know I am doing "Rob Hudson"

This image i found intriguing for the simple reason of the look of it how the sun looks like it is part of the tree. Draws in the attention of the viewer black and white photo for effect, a lot of time must have been spent waiting for the right moment to take the shot. the shot looks like it was worth the wait though. it is  a fantastic image I do enjoy the exposure of the photo itself.

Researching experimental photography; Chris Keeney

This is just like the iconic photographers but I'm looking for experimental photography which can be anything nearly as long as it is something in photography that has become new to photograph. And I do not own any of the images being uploaded on this or the next for chris Keeney.

This image has been taken with a black and white effect but this is a image taken at a straight angle but curved so it would look like this. Using a tripod i would presume but i could be wrong i would guess that chris waited till the right moment then took the shot possibly with a fish eye lens. But this a presumption His image shows that even a dull image can look amazing but this image looks fantastic it is why i choose it for this blog.

me messing about in HDRI 3 of 3

This is one I have taken in my college I was to use HDRI on a location in the college I chose this from 26 i took this one is one I own myself.

my plan for another HDRI Image i will take myself

Plan A. when I get the chance go and knock on door 209 and ask the teacher if I can get some in game shots of one of the students playing a game. If he says no go to PLAN B and remember to get a camera first though it will take about 10 minutes overall unless I need more photos but take 14 max of different parts in game. Any game will do as long as it is saved in .jpg. My own personal opinion on the matter.

Plan B. go home and take the pictures while I play the game actually why is this not plan B not plan A?

Plan C. go to a gaming store and take pictures of game covers.

Plan D. Ask a friend if he will dress as a cosplay character and ask him if it is ok for him to be a model?

Plan E. Wait till anime convention is on in London go and take images then.

Plan F. Wait till I can buy a akatsuki cloak then take image of myself.

these are ideas for my HDRI shot i will do soon but it will be set up on blogger soon.

This image looks like a drawing used with chalk and pencil but this a photo i took in Birmingham just near the bull ring. This was a preset setting in photomatix it is called paintly 3 this preset was really good for my image there is many other options I may choose different ones though.

The reason I choose this image is simple to me and most other gamers like me, which is quite a few. But most wouldn’t do this they would bring in a game of what they like it is too hard of a decision to bring in just the one on it’s own and it would be dangerous because a lot of people would try to take it so as you can tell I have thought it through. This is one of my Xbox 360 controllers it was quite easy to take because of the size of the controller this makes it a efficient item to have in the first place seeing how this is how I usually spend my days using my controllers to the extent I can with out having to worry about my work what needs to be done.

This makes it simple to think of what I would take a photo of for the choice was anything what is a product seeing how I am a gamer this makes near to everything an item of my choice. This was one of my first controllers I used I used it so often and now I got a new one so it has been getting really dusty so I thought I would clear it and use it for a photo it is relatively old compared to what is new even though I have had it for years. Time flew by it has worn out mainly now but it is still useable but I wouldn’t sell it or let any one else borrow it. It has sentimental value to me.

Vocational Context Assignment.

 
well this is a photo cover of skillet which i have tried to recreate on the right which doesn't look exactly like it but it has some of the same features is which i am happy with this image  it was that even if you don't have the materials you can still make what you want it wont be as good but you will be pleased.

 This image is a picture of borderlands 2 This again doesn't look exactly the same but it turned out pretty good to say the image was fun to take as well as that you can't make the same photo for this anyway.

 This image is of Bruce Lee a Legend amongst most he was bound to be in one assignment whether you like him or not this image is not the same for it was then it would not be recreating my own version it would be a copy.

 This image again of another Legend Bob Marley who has a amazing image here but this one took the longest to get because we could not attain the right posture for it .

Location assignment analyse, images and evaluation

This image is one of the ones I have chosen for my location this pub was one of the hardest images to get I had to take this photo so many times before I got the right expose on the photo. This image was worth the trips back and forward the amount of time spent was relatively good and I got it at the right time of day as well. This is an image of a pub called “Big Bulls Head”.

This image is of good quality too the image is another one of my chosen images this image I got a lot of good photos of this too decided it was a matter of which I preferred this was the one I liked out of them. The Name of this pub is “The Dubliner”.

This photo is quite spectacular compared to most of the others I had taken it has a nice structure about it as well as it was quite hard to get like the pub called “Big Bulls Head” this image took me a lot of time but in the end it was worth the time spent on it this pub is called “Market Tavern”.

This image was one I didn’t see until I was just wandering around then found it on accident this was nice little place I saw all though it is not a pub you can get a pint inside so to me you can get a drink that way so I have included it is called “Banks`s”.

This is a pub which was abandoned which for me still looks great from the outside don’t know about the inside. This image was quite hard to get but at the same time I took about nine photos of this but this is the best out of those nine images for this it was the angle of the image the name of this pub is called “Queens Arms”.

This image again another hard image to get it was angle and with that lamppost in the image it is a hard thing to get out of the way it was always there but I thought might as well have it as part of the image it turned out good as I expected the name of it is “The Lamp Tavern”.

This place was not to far or too hard it was the fact that the roads are at angles it is hard to tell if the building is horizontal or not but if you look at the build it self you can see that it is. Which is needed for certain photos this one pass is that though so in the way it being said I did not have to take many pictures of this though it is called “The Bull Ring Tavern”.

This pub was great image I would say I like how the background and the pub itself look amazing in this image. That this was one of the images I liked most out of the ones I took by just wandering around by myself. I was just about to go back and as I was walking I noticed it in the corner of my eye I thought is that a pub I didn’t know till I got a good look though. This pub is called “The Anchor”.

This image was one I found again just wandering except I had a feeling that there would be one round about in the area I was in at that time it was a very slim chance but I wanted to see if my feeling was right and it was this image I had to take a few times but I choose the first one I took I think it is better than the others I took of it anyway. This pub is called “The Spotted Dog”.

This is another image I took but this one has a little inspiration behind it one of my mentors for my course took a certain image at the back of this pub it is nice place I took a picture of the area itself as well but this is my assignment. This pub is called”Fox and Grapes”.

Now all though this is not a pub it is a bar I have allowed it this is my decision not some one else’s as for why I chose this image that is because I liked the look of this building in general though it had to be a pub yes I have allowed any where you can drink but this is if I have chose it all not that is up to me. This place is called”Edmund's” .

This is the only image I took which was not in Digbeth. This was taken a bit more close to home for me it is one of the ones which turned out great it is easy to say that this one was taken while it was snowing . This pub is called “Inn On The Green”.

Evaluation of my location photography

In my evaluation I am going to discuss why, where, when, how and what I have done and its effectiveness. I chose to do my project on pubs because my dad was Irish and a stereotypical Irish man is often associated with drinking, my dad was Irish. However my dad was not a drinker but since my father past away when I was young I thought this would be a better option than taking photos of hospitals or graveyards.

I felt find locations to photograph and getting out and about in the local area a positive aspect of my assignment. This was one of the major aspects of it there are others but it could take up to much space to fully write it up.

well let me explain well it is how the following shall be wrote why I chose it is simply because of the memory of my dad this is not because he was drunk it is because he was Irish and the stereotype is much better than hospitals or graveyards so I thought it should be some where people go to forget their problems so the idea was pubs it has no other meaning to me other than a memory.

Where is also simple mostly round Digbeth other than when I went to Acock green this was only for one picture other than that they were all taken in Digbeth. When since the assignment started I have taken many pictures for my location project at any time I could get a chance to go out. How with a camera on manual set all the settings myself I didn’t need to worry clothing wise because I`m always wearing this massive coat in summer and winter. What I have done I took photos of pubs.

Studio assignment the anayse and the images

This image is one of the images I have chosen for my assignment because of the facial expression, posture and his body language the selling point is the facial expression though. These points are to make the fashion industry to be shocked by the expression of models them self’s.

This image is another I have chosen for the assignment is because of the facial express, hand gestures and body language of the image is interesting the image brings old ideas what are not used often back in.

This image is intriguing to me it is at a angle in the studio which is to say the posture is quite eye catching this draws attention to the image it is the posture, hand gesture and body language.

This image is quite different to usual images you might see in fashion but it adds new details to the world of photography in general, facial expression, body language and the stance of this image is quite amazing.

This image is quite good in the way of direction of the facial expression and body language. Which is quite the interesting image if you wonder about it? But this is about how the image looks the image is relaxed type of photo.

This image is quite good it has facial expression and body language which have got this image in here there is not much else to it other than the simple facts that the image s is good quality.

This image has it`s posture, facial expression and body language the most important parts of most models jobs is to show those three most of the photos I have taken have all three but the photos have to all so grab your attention.

This image has it`s posture and body language this image turned out better than I was expecting it to so the image was a success. To the extent of what I thought it could have been. This is the best turn out for it.

This image has posture and body language again this image though it has it at a different angle which has changed the aspects of the image itself compared to the others he is in. This image is intriguing in the way of stance though.

This image has got body language at a strong level and posture at a strong level the pose used for this is interesting it draws you in to the image.
